About Escape The City

Escape is a global career change community for people who want to do work that matters to them. We believe work should make you feel alive every day - so we share exciting job opportunities and host events and programmes to kickstart change.

Ultimately, our aim is to help 1,000,000 people find work they love. Why? Because 1,000,000 people doing work they love will change the world…

Escape operates with two different teams, the job board which helps ambitious professionals find exciting jobs, and the School, where we help accelerate people’s career change and start up ideas through events, programmes and advice. This role will be a core part of the Escape School team.

About The Escape School

Four years ago, Escape the City launched the Escape School, with our core product being our Accelerators - in depth education programmes that help people transition towards meaningful work. Following their success, we are about to enter an exciting time of growth. We are looking for another pair of hands to help us bring Accelerators to more people both in London and beyond.

The School is a small team of doers who help accelerate transition, we care a lot about helping people to find work that matters and show them how to do it. We’ve run hundreds of events, 13 intakes of Accelerators, and have helped thousands of people to find work that matters to them.

We see the impact of the work that we do everyday, which gives us a great sense of fulfilment and purpose.

The role

Reporting to the Head of the Escape School, you will be responsible for ensuring that:

  • All of the Escape School internal processes are clear, lean, robust and continuously improved upon
  • Escape School events run smoothly so that the Escape team are always prepared and professional and all attendees feel well looked after
  • The rest of the Escape team feel well supported and can count on you to help solve any problem big or small

What will the role entail?

1. Help with Escape’s event calendar for 2019. Scheduling events, corresponding with venues and catering, tracking ticket sales, attendance and feedback, and working with the Marketing Manager to ensure we reach the most people possible for each event. Events will include: evening workshops, Accelerator evening and weekends, Demo Days, Ship It School, partnership events and more.

2. Accelerator support. Attending the Accelerator evenings and weekends and managing the logistics, so the facilitators and attendees can focus all of their attention on the content itself.

3. Special projects. Supporting the Head of Escape School on special projects that help deliver the Escape School strategy, for example: recruitment plans, new product ideas and research.

4. Alumni support. We care a lot about the impact we’re having and are always looking to improve our programmes, but most importantly want to get a really great understanding of what our alums are up to. c.1300 escapees have completed one of our programmes and we want to ensure they remain an active part of the Escape community and we continue to help and celebrate them. This role will be key to ensuring Escape and our alum are getting the most out of this community as possible.

5. And everything else. Support the Head of the Escape School and rest of the team with general admin and operations where needed, e.g. social media, content, liaising with partners and suppliers...

About you...

We are looking for someone who is passionate about people, with an interest in the future of work / career change / startup world, is well aligned with our mission and culture, and has experience in administrative roles or operations.

Who would this suit?

  • Someone who has the ability to self-manage and work in a flexible, varied position.
  • Someone who is digitally literate with a solid grasp of digital tools (typeform, mailchimp, social media, Eventbrite, Slack).
  • Someone who is well organised who wants to join a fun entrepreneurial environment where we work hard and fast, but where we care about personal growth as much as we do about the growth of the business.

Must haves:

  • Self-starter and able to work independently with strong administrative, organisational and time management skills.
  • You will be a fast-learner, tech-savvy and thrive working in busy role within a fast-paced environment.
  • Have huge amounts of empathy and compassion for people stuck in their careers.

Who would this not suit?

  • Disorganised and finds processes boring!
  • Looking to clock in and clock out, Monday to Friday, 9-5

What we can offer

This is a full-time permanent role. We will offer competitive salary depending on experience.

Although a very autonomous role, you will report to the Head of Escape School, and will work closely with our Head of Admissions, Marketing Manager and delivery teams.

Location & Hours

We’re a small team based in a lovely co-working space 2 minutes walk from the beach in sunny Hove, however our programmes are run in London. This role will be based in London but will require some work in Hove.

The role requires you to attend evening and weekend workshops, so hours worked will vary depending on the programme and events schedule.

When Will The Position Be Filled?

We're just keen to get the best person we can so will wait until we find them. That said we’re hoping to fill this position by mid-April for start in early May. The sooner you can apply, the better.

Thanks for reading, look forward to hearing from you.
